India

  • Nalamdana, meaning ‘Are you Well?’ in Tamil, is a Chennai-based non-profit organization currently working in the Government Hospital for Thoracic Medicine Tambaram Sanatorium towards social change using innovative entertainment-education-based interventions. MAKE ART/STOP AIDS has collaborated with Nalamdana for the Are You Well? project, an art-in-hospitals initiative.

  • Centre for Media and Alternative Communications (CMAC) is MAKE ART/STOP AIDS’s Delhi-based partner on one of its major collaborations ArtMoves. CMAC works with media and art to create innovative communication campaigns and education materials to promote public awareness and dialogue across a range of social issues.

  • SPARSHA is a Kolkata-based coalition of People Living with HIV/AIDS and their friends. MAKE ART/STOP AIDS and SPARSHA have collaborated on the Patua-Plus Project, an innovative, arts-based HIV communication and stigma reduction initiative.

Mexico

  • Letra S: Salud, Sexualidad, Sida, is a community-based organization in Mexico City that focuses on Sida (AIDS), sexuality, and stigma—among other “s” issues. MAKE ART/STOP AIDS collaborated with Letra S in developing ‘Historias Positivas’ now re-named Una Mirada Positiva, a participatory photography project that is part of the international Through Positive Eyes project. Brazil

  • Ministry of Health Secretariate of Health Surveillance National STD/AIDS Programme is the lead agency in the country responsible for reducing the incidence of HIV/AIDS and to improve the quality of life of people living with HIV and AIDS. MAKE ART/STOP AIDS collaborated with the STD/AIDS Department to implement Olhares Posithivos, a participatory photography project in Rio de Janeiro in June 2009.   • Associacão Brasileira Interdisciplinar de AIDS (ABIA,) a non-governmental, non-profit organization was set-up to take action against the HIV/AIDS epidemic by mobilizing Brazilian society and advocating for the rights of people living with HIV/AIDS. MAKE ART/STOP AIDS collaborated with ABIA in implementing the Olhares Posithivos project in Rio de Janeiro in June 2009. Olhares Posithivos is part of the international Through Positive Eyes project.

South Africa

  • The Durban Art Gallery (DAG) in Durban, South Africa promotes an awareness of art in general, and of the art and culture of KwaZulu-Natal in particular, through a variety of activities including workshops and films. DAG hosted Not Alone, an internationally touring incarnation of the MAKE ART/STOP AIDS exhibition.

  • Museum Africa is located in Johannesburg, South Africa and carries a variety of exhibits, most of which pertain to the rich history of Africa. Museum Africa is currently hosting Not Alone, an internationally touring incarnation of the MAKE ART/STOP AIDS exhibition.

  • Iziko Museums: Castle of Good Hope is located in Cape Town, South Africa and will be hosting Not Alone, an internationally touring incarnation of the MAKE ART/STOP AIDS exhibition in late fall 2009. The Castle of Good Hope is home to the William Fehr Collection. Contained in the collection is a wealth of historical information concerning the peoples and landscapes of early colonial South Africa.   • The Keiskamma Trust combines AIDS treatment, Art Projects and Education Initiatives to fight against Poverty and HIV/AIDS to the very heart of the community. MAKE ART/STOP AIDS has collaborated with the Keiskamma Trust on the touring of the Keiskamma Altarpiece’s both in North American tour and South Africa.

United States

  • AIDS Project Los Angeles (APLA), is dedicated to: improving the lives of people affected by HIV disease; reducing the incidence of HIV infection; and advocating for fair and effective HIV-related public policy.   • Artists for a New South Africa (ANSA) was originally called Artists for a Free South Africa. The organization was established to support the struggle to end apartheid and the quest to bring freedom and democracy to South Africa. As HIV/AIDS began increasing in South Africa, ANSA made combating the disease a central focus. MAKE ART/STOP AIDS has collaborated with ANSA on various projects.

  • The Flourish Foundation believes in the profound ways that the arts can heal lives and communities. The organization is very hands on in the creation, development and support of numerous and wide-ranging artistic, mentorship, and educational projects that benefit the youth of Los Angeles. The organization creates and develops its own arts projects that include and/or benefit underserved Los Angeles-area middle school, high school and college-aged students. MAKE ART/STOP AIDS commissioned the original work Flesh and Blood from the Flourish Foundation, which has been performed numerous times at UCLA. http://www.theflourishfoundation.org/

  • LAUSD HIV Prevention Unit seeks to, among other goals, improve the quality of HIV/AIDS instruction within comprehensive health education program in the District's secondary schools. MAKE ART STOP AIDS and the LAUSD HIV Prevention Unit have collaborate on the Teen AIDS Action and Awareness project, hosting the Keiskamma Altarpiece, and are currently in collaboration on a new, multiple intervention, HIV/AIDS education program that utilizes the arts to teach about HIV.   • The Fowler Museum at UCLA seeks to enhance understanding and appreciation of the diverse peoples, cultures, and religions of the world through highly contextualized interpretive exhibitions, publications, and public programming, informed by interdisciplinary approaches and the perspectives of the cultures represented. The Fowler Museum hosted the MAKE ART/STOP AIDS exhibition in 2006.

  • The UCLA AIDS Institute is leading the worldwide effort to eradicate HIV, through laboratory research and coordinated patient care. The Institute’s dedicated scientists are committed to developing more effective education and prevention strategies for at-risk communities around the world, and better treatments for all people living with HIV. MAKE ART/STOP AIDS and the UCLA AIDS Institute have collaborated on various projects.
